19 Finalists for Charlottesville Innovation Awards — Honoring Area Entrepreneurs, Teachers And Innovation
You're invited to vote online for the People’s Choice Navigator Award

The Charlottesville Business Innovation Council (CBIC), the technology and entrepreneurship-focused business alliance in Central Virginia, announces the finalists for its 10th Annual Charlottesville Innovation Awards.

Organizations and individuals who have made noteworthy contributions to the marketplace and community in the past year through entrepreneurship and the creation, commercialization, or application of technology will be honored at the gala dinner on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at Farmington Country Club in Charlottesville.

William A. McDonough, internationally renowned architect and designer, will be the keynote speaker, and Microsoft Corporation is the marquee sponsor.

"The award finalists are shining examples of the vitality of the technology sector and entrepreneurship in our region,” said Dave Keller, CBIC Chair and Vice President, Sales and Customer Service at NTELOS.

The awards to be presented and the finalists are:CIA

The Rocket Award for rapid commercialization of a technology or product

Finalists: Avir Sensors, Meddius, and PocketMed

The Spotlight Award for bringing positive attention to the region.

Finalists: Afton Scientific, Indoor Biotechnologies, and Musictoday

The Breakthrough Award for a breakthrough or quantum advance.

Finalists: Cellular Materials, Dynamic Literacy, and Perfect Flavor

The Community Award for community involvement.

Finalists: Charlottesville Tomorrow, Computers4Kids, and Dominion Digital

The Red Apple Award for achievements in education.

Finalists: Melanie Dusci, J.T. Henley Middle School; Christine Esposito, Walker Upper Elementary School; Donna Shifflett, Ruckersville Elementary School; and Beth White, Western Albemarle High School

The People’s Choice Navigator Award for significant leadership in the local or regional business community.

Finalists: David Chen, Robin Felder, and Elizabeth Pyle

In addition to these award recipients, during the banquet one volunteer member of CBIC who has shown exemplary volunteer contributions will be honored with the CBIC Leadership Award (formerly known as the Chairman's Award).
